5 Tips for Managing Stress During the COVID Pandemic

Are you feeling stressed out over the changes that the coronavirus outbreak has brought upon your daily life? An outbreak of this size can be stressful, causing anxiety to impact your mental health; but you can rest easier knowing that there are many ways to combat this overwhelming feeling. Here are five tips to help you manage stress at home during the coronavirus pandemic:

Take breaks from the news: While it is important to stay informed about the latest developments, there is such a thing as too much news. According to the CDC, hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can upset you. Experts recommend that you limit the amount of time you spend watching the news.

Do what you love: Take some time and jot down a list of the things that make you happiest along with some of your favorite memories. Once you’re done, look for trends in that list and incorporate them into your daily routine. Setting time aside to do the things you love everyday will help you forget about the stress and experience feelings of happiness.

Stay Connected: Isolation is a major stressor and can cause feelings of loneliness. Most of us are spending prolonged time away from our friends, coworkers, or even our families. Despite the distance, we can still stay connected to the important people in our lives. First, determine how much contact you need. Some of us require more connection than others. Then based on your needs, set up a schedule of regular contact. Try scheduling weekly Zoom calls with your peers, or take a daily walk with someone you are able to be with.

Take care of your mind and body: Mental health and physical health go hand in hand and are as equally important to your well-being. To promote a healthy mind, make sure that you talk about how you are feeling to people you trust. Whether it is a family member, or therapist, maintain open communication about what is on your mind.

To promote a healthy body, find ways to exercise at home, ensure you are getting enough sleep, and are fueling your body properly. Not only is exercise good for your body, it also provides you with a rush of endorphins that give you an overall positive feeling. To support your body, get at least seven to nine hours of sleep every night. If you are having trouble sleeping, consider reading a book before going to bed and trying CBD  as an aid. This outbreak has turned our world upside down, causing many of us to feel uneasy and wish that things could go back to normal. While we don’t have the answer about when exactly that will be, we need to make sure that we are taking care of ourselves in the meantime. It’s okay to feel stressed or anxious during this difficult time, but it is important that we manage this stress for both ourselves and our loved ones. If you are having difficulty dealing with stress, try implementing these tips into your daily life.
